Year 11 took this really seriously! There was much concentration and discussion about how their towers were to be constructed! There was also much more popping than with the year 8 class!
Thank you! As long as you are prepared for a bit of chaos and noise, it's great fun! Warn any teachers that have a room next to and underneath yours as the popping is quite loud!
I centred my lesson around it. We brainstormed the topic areas and sub topics first and then put them on the board. I told them that they had to use 1 balloon per area and gave them a lower limit of 10 pieces of vocab per balloon. After that they had to stack them with sticky pads and the towers had to stand alone. Tallest tower won. Afterwards I wanted to play class poker (see post on this blog) but ran out of time! Hope it works for you. Let me know how you get on!
Looks amazing! What a cool idea!

ReplyDeleteThis is a fab idea. I'm going to try this with year 1 1 next week. How long roughly did your classes spend on this activity? Victoria
