Last Yr13 lesson tomorrow and I felt the need to do something fun, yet also useful. So I found a brilliant tips for the translation sheet on TES here: A2 German translation tips by Lis1982, adapted it and used the translation sentences as a pass the parcel type game. I took each sentence, wrote the English on an envelope, wrote the German translation on a strip of paper and chopped it up, added some alternative words and threw in some red herrings and popped all the pieces of paper in the envelope.
What I'm going to do is give the students an envelope to begin with, give them 3 minutes to rearrange the words, write the translation down correctly and identify what grammar points they needed to watch out for. At the end of the time limit, they are going to pass them to the next person and repeat. At the end, they are going to check their work against the answers and see who got the most correct.
Hope it works cos I feel like I've been cutting up paper forever!!!
Update - it worked really well! It highlighted areas for them to work on and the red herrings did their job of making the students think really hard about the grammar!!!
